Maruti Suzuki India has created the kind of buzz for Ciaz that it wanted to, all thanks to its innovative marketing strategy. However putting all speculations to rest, MSI has confirmed launch of Ciaz for the month of October instead of September. Production of SX4 replacement has already begun at the company’s Manesar manufacturing unit. With Ciaz MSI will make its comeback in mid-sized sedan segment as SX4 production was barred a while ago due to its painstakingly slow pace of sales. Official bookings will start from tomorrow at a token amount of Rs 21,000. Boasting length of 4.5 meters Ciaz is claimed to be the longest sedan in its segment. Also a large wheelbase measuring 2.65 meters make it roomier than SX4 and give it an edge over its rivals in C segment.
MSI will roll out Ciaz in both petrol and diesel engine options with three trim levels in each guise. Power will be supplied through a 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine and Fiat sourced 1.3 litre Multijet diesel powertrain. The 1.4 litre K Series petrol engine develops maximum power output of 95 PS along with peak torque of 130 Nm. Petrol powered Ciaz is expected to deliver a decent fuel economy of 20.73 kmpl.
Diesel range on the other hand will get Fiat’s 1.3 litre motor that already does duty in Maruti’s other vehicles like Swift, Swift Dzire etc. The 1.3 litre Multijet engine outputting 90 PS of top power and 200 Nm of pinnacle torque will be employed in Ciaz diesel range. Diesel engined Ciaz is likely to return segment best 26.21 kmpl of mileage. A five-speed manual gearbox will be mated to both the engines, a four-speed automatic transmission will also be offered as optional on petrol variant.
