Maruti Celerio AMT waiting period stretches to six months

Maruti Suzuki India’s latest addition in B segment hatchback, Celerio is currently enjoying unprecedented response from the customers. Within a month of its launch the car has received a gush of bookings, specially for the AMT version. Sources reveal that Celerio roped in a whopping 25,000 bookings in a short time span of one month. AMT is more in demand particularly in major cities like Mumbai and Bangalore and with such high demand there is a waiting period of six months for the AMT version. According to the previous booking numbers, the AMT version accounted for 51% of the total bookings which now has been increased with 25,000 bookings in hand and most of them being for AMT variant.

Maruti Suzuki India became the first car maker in India to introduce the newly developed automated manual transmission in Celerio hatchback. The overwhelming response shows that customers have very well accepted this new technology which we believe will be seen in future cars from other car makers too in India.

Maruti Suzuki India is currently importing the gearbox from Magneto Marelli. However, the company plans to manufacture it locally by 2015. The automated manual gearbox gives an option to the drivers to shift gear automatically or switch to manual shifting whenever they feel the need to. Some other cars from Maruti’s stable which could be seen with AMT gearbox include Alto hatchback and upcoming Ciaz sedan. Another home grown auto maker, Tata will soon launch its new compact sedan Zest equipped with the AMT gearbox, its petite car Nano will also be offered with the automated manual transmission. Tata plans to bestow its entire Tata line-up with AMT gearbox in coming time.
