Maruti Suzuki has started working on its exclusively made in India car codenamed as YP8. The new small car is homogenously designed and manufactured in India. MSIL is likely to unveil that car at Delhi Auto Expo 2010 to be held in January of the coming year. Maruti has already sounded off to its ancillary manufacturers for their inputs on the design and engine of the new model. The car is expected to be based on Ritz platform and fitted with its 1.2 K-series engine.

This move will enable Maruti to bring down its cost as MSIL will not have to pay royalty cost to Suzuki anymore. It will also enable Maruti to save on introducing any new platforms which ask for a lot of expenditure. This is in line with the Company's strategy to be a global leader from small car and India will be its best manufacturing hub.

If this venture is successful, Suzuki will outsource development of small cars to Maruti Suzuki. It currently exports A-star to Europe and other countries which is being sold as Suzuki Splash and Nissan Pixo in the overseas markets.
