Maruti Suzuki India will launch its much-awaited Baleno premium hatchback in the country today. Based on Suzuki’s new-generation platform, the all-new Maruti Baleno will be made available in four trim levels – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha – within an estimated price range of Rs. 5.5 lakh – Rs. 9 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, the premium hatchback will take on the Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20 and Volkswagen Polo. The Baleno will be manufactured at the company’s Manesar plant. The India-made Baleno will also be exported to other Asian countries and global markets.
The engine options on offer will be a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel that also do duty to the Swift hatchback and Swift Dzire compact sedan. The former is capable to produce a maximum power of 83bhp and 115Nm of torque, while the latter one is good for 74bhp and 190Nm. Both the powertrains are paired to a five-speed manual transmission, while a CVT is offered only on the Delta petrol model. The premium hatchback measures 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width and 1,500mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,520mm. It has a ground clearance of 170, and offers a boot space of 339-litres.
The Baleno gets dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), anti-theft security system and seat belt pre-tensioners and force limiters as standard safety fitments across all variants. The car also features first-in-segment Apple CarPlay with 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment system, automatic climate control, navigation system, 2-DIN audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, etc.
