Maruti Suzuki has launched the Baleno for Rs 4.99 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Baleno is the premium hatchback that is competing with the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. The Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns about 83bhp of power and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The diesel engine is the 1.3-litre that produces 75bhp and 190Nm of peak torque.
The Baleno is Maruti’s new premium hatchback that will be sold through the Nexa range of dealerships and will be more expensive than the Swift. It is made on Suzuki’s new generation platform, which is lighter and stronger too. The Baleno comes loaded with features like keyless entry, push start and stop, in-dash touchscreen system with Apple’s CarPlay, reverse parking camera, dual airbags and ABS. The safety features are a standard offering across all the variants.
The Baleno’s design language will be seen on the new-generation Maruti Suzuki products. The Baleno’s lighter body weight has made it highly fuel efficient and this is what enhances its fuel efficiency, performance and even the driving dynamics. The Baleno is the only premium hatchback that gets daytime running LEDs, which isn’t seen on any of the other competition.
