Low price car segment in India has always been a favourite among carmakers. There are carmakers that support the needs of those, who want to spend their hard earned money quite wisely. Maruti A–Star is another decent mileage car which caters to the high-end needs at affordable price. Affixed with a 1000 cc engine, it is believed to be the successor of Maruti Alto. The car does not lag behind in safety aspects and is fitted with air bags and ABS. Maruti A-Star is a low budget car, which is priced between Rs. 3.4 lacs to Rs.4 lacs.

Maruti Zen Estilo, also part of the same league and one of the most frugal cars, offers good mileage. The accessories of the car speak volumes for itself. The gear shifting is quite smooth due to the advancement in transmission technology. The car offers a good fuel economy in both city as well as highway. Besides, the interior of the car is a treat to watch, including the seat fabric, carpet and trim colours. The space inside the car is enough for a small family. Maruti Zen Estilo comes with a price tag ranging from Rs. 3 lacs to Rs. 4 lacs.

From the Hyundai camp, the foremost contender eligible for the title of the lowest price car is Hyundai Eon. To be launched in October 2011, it is one of the entry-level hatchbacks which is equipped with 800cc, 3-cylinder engine that has the ability to generate a maximum power of 50 bhp. In this market segment, Hyundai Eon is expected to give tough competition to the likes of Maruti Alto and Chevrolet Spark.

The hatchback is believed to be inspired by the contour, style and look of Hyundai’s most celebrated hatchback Hyundai i10. The all-new big-sized headlamp, innovative and advanced body design with bold looks can be considered as the major aspects that will make it quite popular. The Hyundai Eon hatchback is expected to carry a price tag of Rs. 3 lacs.

Hyundai i10, the highly experienced player that has served the Indian market for almost 4 years, also falls in the low-price segment. i10 has attained a level of popularity that matches to that of make manufacturer’s ace car Santro. The 1.1 litre Hyundai i10 is available in petrol version as of now, costing between Rs. 3.4 lacs and Rs. 4.9 lacs.

The auto market continues to welcome low budget cars, which are quite popular with the Indian customers.
