Maruti Alto is to be launched with a new 1.0L K-series engine. It is widely rumoured that the model will be launched next month but the company dealers refuse to divulge any details of the same. As per the dealers, they still do not have any official information about the new upgraded and more powerful Maruti Alto coming to the market next month nor do they have any bookings open for the same.
However, if sources are to be believed the new Maruti Alto with 1.0L engine will be powered by engine delivering 66 bhp and 90 Nm of torque. It will be priced at Rs. 3 lakh and above with ARAI certification of delivering mileage of 20kmpl. This means MSIL is gearing up for tough competition coming in the market. There are new entrants slated to enter the Indian car market in next 12-18 months.
Volkswagen Up1, Hyundai 800cc model, Tata Nano variants, Fiat small car in lieu of Palio are some of the new entrants ready to enter India. This makes MSIL all the more wary as it has already seen a dip in its market share up to 47 percent from earlier 52 percent. This is for the first time that Maruti has seen its market share dip for the first time in past few decades.
