Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the largest car maker in the country, is aggressively boosting its production to catch-up with the mounting waiting period of its popular cars like Swift. The company is aiming to enhance its total output by 40 percent in the month of October 2011. It is to be mentioned here that the quarter ended in September 2011, was one of the worst quarters for the Maruti Suzuki, with the car production falling by nearly 25 percent.

This month’s production targets have been fixed about 30 to 40 percent higher as compared to the production registered in the month of September. In the period of July to September, the company’s production decreased by 24 percent, making it the steepest decline in the Maruti Suzuki’s 29 years of operations in the Indian market.

In a statement given on Thursday, the company spokesman said, "As a special effort to meet this exceptional demand of Swift, which will also be rolled out from Gurgaon for some time before its dedicated production shifts back to the Manesar plant.”

The waiting period for the company’s most popular premium hatchback Maruti Swift, which was recently launched in the country in a new generation version, has surged to up to 3 to 8 months in the country. While the petrol version is available with a waiting period of 3 to 6 months, the diesel version’s waiting period has increased to 6 to 8 months.
