      Maruti Aims its Exports at New Shores

      According to a top Maruti executive, the company is ready to export its new model A-Star to Latin America and South Africa. It aims to export nearly 1.5 lakh cars as the demand for compact cars is gradually increasing. The current export target for Maruti is nearly double that of the year ended March 2009. Maruti exports doubled to 15,978 units in the April-May period, led by A-Star.

      Maruti is already exporting the car to European countries where it is being sold as Suzuki Alto, PIxo and Celerio in different markets. It will export 70,000 units more to Europe and sell at least 30,000 units to Nissan which will sell the car in Europe as Nissan Pixo.

      Maruti currently exports the A-Star to France, Italy, the UK, Netherlands and Germany in Europe. Algeria is the next biggest market for Maruti in Africa and the company will soon start selling the car there along with Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal and fifty other countries where it already has its sales and distribution network established with its parent company, Suzuki Motors Ltd from Japan.
