Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister had been in news a couple of years ago sighting land grabbing incident by Tata Motors plant that was set-up in the region. This time around the state government has invited talks with Tata Motors to make possible arrangements for its relocation to the abandoned Singur facility. Speaking more on the incident, Rana Sinha said, “This was just a follow-up meet after Chief Minister's Bijoya Sammilani. She had asked us whether there were any issues. So this meeting was organized to discuss the future of manufacturing.”

Apart from Tata Motors the government has also hinted on a possibility that TCS shall set-up its second camp in Bengal. This move may likely create about 20,000 employment opportunities in the region. Post the tiff at the Singur facility, the Singur Act made by Banerjee, had been challenged by Tata Motors at Calcutta High court. The Singur Act lost in the trial court, later Justice I.P. Mukerji of the Calcutta high court passed a curative judgment that recommended certain modifications of the act, but this too fell flat in the appeals court calling its an unconstitutional law.

A report from TOI states as, “Originally scheduled for 15 minutes, the meeting stretched to an hour-and-a-half as the CM interacted individually with TMIL MD Sandipan Chakraborty, Tata Metaliks MD Sanjiv Paul, Tata Hitachi MD Rana Sinha, TMILL MD RN Murthy, Mjunction MD Viresh Oberoi and Tata Steel Processing & Distribution Ltd MD Abraham Stephanos."
