      Mahindra XUV 500 - Reasons for its popularity

      Looking back in the year 2011, Mahindra and Mahindra, the carmaker well known in UV segment had created a storm in the Indian automotive circuit with the bold, rugged, yet stylish looking SUV named XUV 500. Last month, the popular XUV 500 SUV has reached the applaudable 1 Lakh sales mark on a global platform. The achievement is quite a feat given the fact that the vehicle has been around for not more than three years. The ‘Cheetah-Inspired’ styling has caught the fancy of many SUV lovers in the local as well as international markets.

      The Mahindra XUV 500 is available in both two wheel and four wheel drive options. The masculine SUV is powered by 2179CC, mHawk140, Direct injection diesel engine 5th generation Variable Geometry Turbo charger (VGT) engine that generates an impressive 140 Bhp of power with 330 Nm of torque. The vehicle gets Borg Warner developed, Intelligent All Wheel Drive technology that puts you in complete control of the vehicle irrespective of heavy rainfall, slippery surfaces or snowfall situations.

      Mahindra and Mahindra had recently also launched the limited edition of XUV 500 rechristened as 'Sportz' at an attractive price tag of about 13.68 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The Limited Edition Sportz of XUV 500 has received leather seats, DVD, CD, MP3, six-inch touch screen infotainment system with GPS, FM, USB, iPod connectivity, driver information system, fully automatic temperature control with dual HVAC, cruise control, smart rain and light sensors, projector head lights and LED parking lights among few others. Earlier this year Mahindra had also showcased the hybrid version of XUV 500 that had visitors awestruck with the vehicle.

      Speaking more on the recent 1 Lakh sales mark achievement, Ashok Thakur, CEO of Mahindra SA, said, “Mahindra products not only offer very good value for money, but are also reliable and durable, which has resulted in steady sales growth in the decade we have been in South Africa. Often a motor company launches a higher priced model to mark an anniversary or special occasion, but we decided to introduce the W4 model of the XUV500 to make this even more affordable. In fact, the price of R249,995 is R30,000 lower than the existing XUV500.”
