Mahindra XUV 500, one of the most popular sports utility vehicles in the Indian market, has become the first ever diesel run SUV to get a podium position at the Maruti Suzuki Desert Strom Rally 2012. Getting full marks on its endurance, the XUV 500 managed to get the third podium position at the recently held Desert Strom Rally, which is considered one of the toughest rallies in the country.
During the five day Suzuki Desert Strom Rally 2012, the XUV 500 model was driven by Gaurav Gill (3 time National champion and APRC winner) and Lohitt Urs (INRC winner) with a rally nickname of Super XUV500. During this five day’s rally program, the drivers of XUV500 have shown tremendous comeback by reaching to 3rd podium position on the penultimate day from 35th position on day 1.
Speaking on the maiden success of the XUV500 at the Rally, Sr. Vice-President (Marketing - Automotive Division) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “This unprecedented podium finish by the Mahindra XUV500 is a testimony to the 20 Auto awards it has won since its launch!
He added that Mahindra was entering the Extreme category for the first time in many years and the Mahindra XUV500 conquered the Desert with dogged determination and confidence to create Indian motor sports history. Keeping the spirit of Adventure going, the XUV500 is all set to make and break many more records in times to come.
