Top utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has decided to foray into the sub 4 metre segment once again after the launch of its compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Quanto. This time it will be the indigenously developed Verito Vibe, a hatchback to be launched in the country in May 2013. It will be constructed on the existing Verito platform, which is a Mahindra & Mahindra sedan already available in the Indian auto market. This new vehicle from Mahindra has been given the name ‘Vibe', with the intention of targeting the socially conscious youth through its exuberance and sportiness.
It is anticipated that the yet-to-be launched Verito Vibe would be intelligently packaged with adequate interior space and comfort attributes. The new Vibe will get many distinct design cues, making it sportier than the current Verito sedan. Instead of removing the boot, Mahindra & Mahindra has imparted the new vehicle with a two-box body style, sporting large tail lights, besides the roof rails attempt to give the Vibe an element of sportiness. From the initial pictures, the doors and body panels of Vibe are same as those seen on the Verito, but the front bumper and grille are different. Under-the-hood, this vehicle gets the familiar 1.5 litre dCi diesel engine that powers the Verito diesel at the moment.
With a newly packaged product, Mahindra hopes to stand out against the rest in the sub 4 metre market. Commenting on the new product, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive for the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra said, “Customer centric innovation has always been at the heart of any product development at the Mahindra Group. The Verito Vibe marks our entry in the high volume sub 4 metre segment. While developing this product we have paid particular attention to making this car look different and we are sure that it will appeal to customers with its young and sporty looks and that too without compromising the benefits which our existing Verito has to offer.
