Mahindra & Mahindra, the leading utility and sports utility vehicle maker seems aggressive with its product strategy for the growing Indian car market. The company is aiming to launch a bunch of new SUVs and facelifts of its existing cars. Mahindra will launch S101 micro SUV, U301 Bolero SUV, Quanto facelift, Scorpio Automatic and XUV500 facelift this year. Not just UVs and SUVs, the homegrown automaker is also aiming to launch the Verito Electric. If reports are to be believed, the Verito Electric will be introduced in the market by the mid of 2015.

Mahindra marked its presence in the popular sedan segment of the country with the Verito, but it failed to generate any volume for the carmaker. However, the company is now aiming to revive the Verito brand by introducing the electric version of the sedan in the country by mid-2015. It will be positioned in the commercial car-rental segment. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Verito Electric will also be exported to international markets including Europe. In India, the company hopes to sell around 100 units of the sedan every month.

The Verito Electric largely looks identical to the outgoing diesel powered sedan. However, the electric model lacks exhaust pipe while the boot lid has prominent automatic and electric badging. The fuel lid will be replaced by a charging point which can be connected to a home electric unit for charging. It is powered by a 39bhp AC motor, which allows the sedan to run up to 100km. The lithium-ion battery takes 7 hours for full charge, and the Verito Electric offers a top speed of 85kmph.
