Mahindra’s upcoming seven-seater, the TUV500 was spotted undergoing trials in Chennai. Based on the TUV300, the TUV500 gets third-row seats instead of the TUV300’s jump seats.

Visually, the TUV500 looks similar to the TUV300 right up to the C-pillar. However past the C pillar, the TUV500 gets an extended tail section to accommodate the third row. The tail lamp design loos similar to the Scorpio, although this might just be a stop gap measure for the prototype. The spare wheel is mounted on the tail gate.

The TUV500 is based on the same ladder frame chassis as the TUV300 and the Scorpio. It would be powered by a 2.0-litre mHawk diesel engine from the XUV500 and Scorpio, delivering 140bhp and 320Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

The Mahindra TUV500 will be positioned above the upcoming Mahindra U321 as a rival to the Tata Hexa and the Renault Lodgy. It is expected to be revealed during the 2018 Auto Expo.
