      Mahindra to Set Up New Passenger Vehicle Plant

      Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to set up a new manufacturing plant in Chennai to manufacture its passenger vehicles. "Mahindra and Mahindra has confirmed investment in the state and this would take the total car manufacturing capacity in Tamil Nadu to 1.4 million units per annum from the current 1.3 million units," said M. Velmurugan, executive vice chairman, Guidance Bureau, Industries Department.

      According to the source, the Mahindra Group is planning to set up an automobile project and possibly a tractor facility, which it had announced earlier. The Government is planning to acquire over 2,400 acres at Cheyyar, for the various investments in the pipeline, and the additional land available for the Mahindra Group’s facility will soon be made available. Among the possibilities for the new location, Mahindra Group representatives had said, were production facilities for the Scorpio-substitute, utility vehicle and LTV (low tonnage vehicle).

      Mahindra is yet to come out with an official statement regarding the statement and confirmation of its final plans the new venture in Tamil Nadu.
