      Mahindra to reopen bookings for XUV 500 from January 2012

      The country’s leading utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra said on Friday that it will reopen the bookings of its popular Sports Utility Vehicle – XUV 500 – in the Indian market from January 2012. It is to be mentioned here that the company had stopped receiving booking for the vehicle in October 2011, following the 8,000 bookings in just 10 days of the launch of this vehicle in the Indian market.

      While keeping quite on details, the company said that is increasing production capacity for XUV 500 in the country. It added, "It would reopen bookings of its XUV500 in January 2012." At present, the company manufactures the XUV 500 at its Chakan plant, where it is in the process of enhancing the production capacity.

      According to the company, the newly launched XUV 500 was sold out for four months within the 10 days of its launch. The deliveries to these customers will commence from the month of January 2012.

      Carrying a 2.2-litre diesel engine, the all new Mahindra XUV500 was launched in the price range of Rs 10.8 lakh and Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). After launching the vehicle on 29th September, the company had opened the booking for the vehicle from October 1st. However, with bookings crossing 8,000 units mark in just 10 day, the company stopped receiving bookings from 11th October. The vehicle is available in both two and four wheel drive variants.
