The country’s largest utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra has said that it will sell the SUV’s (sports utility vehicles) of the recently acquired subsidiary – Sangyong – in the Indian market.
Speaking in a press conference at the Seoul Motor Show on Thursday, Mahindra Group managing director Anand Mahindra said that the company will roll-out the Korando and Rexton models in the Indian market. He said, "Right now the (Indian) market is a very, very high-potential market for products of the kinds Ssangyong makes. People are ready to spend more for more sophisticated products."
Moreover, the company is also planning to sell Ssangyong cars in the South African market where it already has a sales network. Last year, Mahindra & Mahindra had sold over 9,500 units of its cars in the South African market. Mr. Mahindra said, "SUVs are perfectly suited for the terrain of Africa. The joint team of Ssangyong and Mahindra will make a strong impact." He added that the firm is committed therefore to the turnaround of the company's fortunes and this is going to be a long journey in which both of the companies intend to be long-term players.
According to Ssangyong’s chief executive Lee Yoo-Il, both Mahindra and Ssangyong are working together to launch new electric cars and electric version of existing cars in India within next two years.
