Mahindra and Mahindra have been the pioneers in the Utility segment in India. The Indian carmaker has a strong fleet of cars in this segment that have been loaded with features to meet the needs of an everyday commuter. Mahindra’s Scorpio has been in the market for quite a long time and this time around is due to be launched with a fresh face that shall outperform in the modern day competition. A while ago, Mahindra and Mahindra had announced special discounts of upto Rs. 60,000 on their Scorpio SUV as part of its monsoon offers. It has been a known fact that Mahindra and Mahindra is a strong player in the Utility Vehicle segment in the country and the upcoming face lifted version may further enhance its sales in the country.
The Mahindra Scorpio fleet in the country has not received any major upgrade since 2009. Yet the Scorpio SUV has been generating a good amount of monthly sales in the country. The feat is all the more special as the numbers have been achieved post induction of new age contemporary SUVs like Duster. The newer version may also get a six speed automatic transmission this time apart from the existing five speed manual gearbox. The upcoming Mahindra Scorpio shall be powered by existing line of 2.2 litre M-Hawk turbo diesel engine. Performance figures have not been spoken in detail yet but it is anticipated that the power and torque figures could be increased from the existing 120 bhp with 290 Nm of torque to 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque.
Apart from cosmetic changes in the new Scorpio, no major technical upgrades are expected. To further enhance the drive quality, suspension may be worked further by the company to deliver a smoother ride quality at the rear occupants and further improve with vehicle handling. For better cooling the AC vents have been redesigned. As for the interiors, the new Scorpio may get new upholstery in fabric and come with leather options to make it look a bit more up-market and stylish. Interesting features like start-stop system, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth with USB and aux-in connectivity have been included as a standard feature. Facelift Mahindra Scorpio’s exterior may sport a redesigned front fascia, front grille, bumper head lamps, and bonnet scoop will be largely redesigned. The side profile of the new Scorpio shall however receive minimum changes.
