Sporting comprehensive changes, new Mahindra Scorpio has been rolled out in manual transmission only unlike its previous range that also offered automatic transmission. However, an AT version is in the making and will soon be added to the new range. Media reports suggest that M&M could replace the previous autobox with a new six-speed transmission. Launch of new Scorpio AT variant is expected to happen by early 2015. The new gearbox is likely to be sourced from SsangYong, apparently this could be the same tranny that is equipped in X100 compact SUV. Sources have revealed that this transmission was earlier being contemplated to be used in Mahindra XUV 500, but since both the vehicles share the same powertrain, hence this gearbox could be used for both.

Power will come from the same 2.2 litre, mHawk diesel engine good for top power of 120 Bhp along with 280 Nm of peak torque. Rival vehicles like Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano do not come in automatic transmission, hence Scorpio does have an edge over its competition. Moreover, the company has outright ruled out possibility of an automated manual gearbox, therefore we are not seeing any AMT variant in near future. As for the price, automatic variant maybe priced Rs 1 lakh more than the regular variant.
