Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to launch the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) equipped Quanto in the country by early 2015. The vehicle has been spotted a couple of times during its test rounds on Indian roads. Showcased at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Quanto will be the first Utility Vehicle to feature the AMT gearbox.

Interestingly, the company is also working on an all-new Quanto which is scheduled to go on sale in the next 2 years. Before that, the home-grown carmaker is aiming to add new variant to its line-up. Moreover, the increase in demand for AMT equipped vehicle could be the reason behind the early launch of Quanto AMT.

The Quanto AMT features an all-new 5-speed autoshift transmission that has been developed in association with Ricardo. The AMT gearbox is known for offering the convenience of an automatic gearbox along with the feel of a manual transmission. Driver can shift gears either manually or fully automatically. The AMT gearbox features an electronic control and hydraulic actuation system that offers driver an option of shifting gears automatically and returns better fuel economy.

Moreover, the AMT gearbox costs lesser than the conventional automatic transmission. With Quanto AMT, Mahindra is aiming to offer clutch-less feel to buyers at an affordable price. The Quanto AMT will continue to feature the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 98.6bhp and a peak torque of 240Nm.
