      Mahindra & Mahindras to establish new assembly plant in Southeast Asian region

      The India based utility vehicle giant Mahindra & Mahindra, which is rapidly expanding its foot prints in the global market, is planning to set-up an assembly plant in the Southeast Asian region. The company is now planning to assemble its portfolio models in the countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The new assembly plant will be catering the production for the whole Southeast Asian market. The company already has an assembly plant in the in Brazilian and Egyptian market.

      Mahindra & Mahindra will be setting-up this plant as a part of its plan of becoming a major player in the global automotive market. The plant will come-up over the period of next two years.

      While speaking to ET, Mahindra & Mahindra’s chief executive, (international operations, automotive & farm equipment sectors), Mr. Pravin Shah said, "SEA markets are important, big markets for M&M's overseas growth and for expanding firm’s global presence. We are at present in talks with various parties and evaluating the various possibilities for setting up base with appropriate business model."

      The production that is expected to be a part of M&M’s portfolio in the Southeast Asian market include its pick-up trucks, global portfolio Sports Utility Vehicles of M&M’s South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong, Mahindra Tractors, etc.

      The company is looking forward to Southeast Asian region to account for about 15 to 20 percent of its total exports over a period of next four to five years.
