      Mahindra & Mahindra scores 27 percent hike in sales in April this year

      Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., a renowned brand in utility vehicle production has announced a 27 percent surge in the sales figures for April 2012 that stood at 40,719 units in comparison to the 32,090 units sold in the corresponding month in April 2011.

      The automaker has recorded a shoot up in the sales volume by 29 percent in the domestic auto market from around 30,349 units in the last April to 39,299 units registered in this April. Further, the sale of passenger segment vehicles rose by 33 percent and stood at 20,558 units comprising of bestselling models such as Bolero, Verito, Scorpio, Xylo and XUV500.

      Mr. Pravin Shah, Chief Executive (Automotive Division), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., was quoted as saying, "We are happy to have achieved a growth of 27% during the first month of the new financial year. We are particularly encouraged by the success of all our brands especially Bolero which figures in the top 10 selling passenger vehicles in India. Going forward, we will continue to work towards maintaining this growth momentum."

      The exports of the automaker, however, suffered a loss of 18 percent in sales volume declining from 1741 units exported in April 2011 to 1420 units exported in this April.

      Recently, Mahindra & Mahindra also revealed that its flagship and iconic SUV, Scorpio has registered its highest ever annual sales of 50844 units for the FY 2011-12 and is heading towards launching updated versions of this Mighty Muscular SUV to further strengthen its stand in the SUV segment.
