On the back of its new cars Honda Cars India Ltd has toppled India’s largest UV maker Mahindra & Mahindra from its third spot by outnumbering the latter in July sales at 15,709 units as against Mahindra’s 12,472 units sold last month. Honda’s Amaze, City and newly launched MPV Mobilio proved to be the major driving force behind this achievement. Honda India registered 40 per cent growth last month at 15,709 units including domestic sales and exports. Reigning mid-sized sedan segment, City contributed around 7,705 unit sales last month, Amaze on the hand garnered 4507 unit sales.

Opening to an overwhelming response Honda’s first MPV, Mobilio roped in 3,365 unit sales in just one week after its launch in India. Keeping apart the 3,365 units of Mobilio delivered to customers last month, the company has around 7,000 units left to be delivered foreshadowing at a probable waiting period.

On the other hand Mahindra & Mahindra witnessed fall in sales by 9 per cent in the month of July at 12,472 units of passenger vehicles sold in July 2014. The company has few of the most popular UVs in its portfolio like Scorpio, Bolero and XUV 500 which have been doing pretty well in terms of sales. However the company has been grappling with the rest of the vehicles in its range that are unable to woo customers.

Though, the company is coming up with a couple of new UVs that are yet in development stage and besides that Scorpio facelift and thoroughly tweaked Scorpio facelift will also be spawned in upcoming months. After losing its third spot to Japanese auto maker, the company could expedite the launch of its vehicles, however it is just a speculation and there is no such hint from the auto maker. For now Honda India is enjoying the high demand for its vehicles in India, though sources have revealed that the company eyes climbing up to the top spot in coming time in domestic market.
