The Indian auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra, which is one of the most diversified auto makers in the country, is struggling with engine capacity crunch. In a statement given by Mr. Pawan Goenka, Automotive President at Mahindra & Mahindra, the firm has confronted with some limitations for their vehicles in the Indian auto market.

Speaking to the reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Goenka said that the firm has set a target and is ready to enhance the manufacturing capacity of their portfolio vehicle in the country, by the end of Q2 financial year 2011-12. According to him the engine capacity constraints are slowing down the process of expansion of the company.

It is to be mentioned here that Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing-up to launch their much awaited global sports utility vehicle (SUV) – Mahindra W201- in the Indian market in coming months. Moreover, the firm is also planning to jointly develop a few models with its South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong.

The net profit of the company surged 7 percent in the first quarter on this financial year. The major contributors in this profit increase were increased demand for Mahindra vehicles along with volume sales registered by the company.

Mahindra & Mahindra is currently the largest utility vehicle maker in the Indian auto market and sells a range of popular sports utility vehicles including Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Bolero and Mahindra Xylo. The firm’s India portfolio also include the entry level sedan Verito.
