India’s largest UV maker, Mahindra has launched W4 variant of XUV 500 SUV in South Africa on the occasion of completing 10 years in South African market. Mahindra XUV 500 W4 variant is available for sale in South Africa at Rand 249,995. The W4 version is Rand 30,000 less pricey than the next variant in XUV 500 line-up. Under the hood, W4 variant of XUV 500 gets a 2.2 litre Mhawk turbo diesel motor that churns out a peak power and torque output of 140 Bhp and 330 Nm respectively.
A six-speed manual gearbox is mated to the Mhawk engine that transmits power to the front wheels. XUV 500’s top-of-the-line trim, W8 is offered with all wheel drive system. Despite being the least priced variant in XUV 500 line-up, W4 trim comes equipped with pre-eminent features like dual airbags, Anti Lock Braking System and Electronic Brake force Distribution. Besides the forenamed safety features, Mahindra also offers disc brakes on all four wheels that enables to stop power in a better manner. Underpinning the monocoque chassis, the SUV has better ride and handling as compared to other Mahindra SUVs on offer.
In India, the new base version of XUV 500, W4 was launched in November 2013 at Rs 10.83 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
