The KUV100 has replaced the Bolero as the highest selling car in the Mahindra line up. The sales of the SUVish hatchback at 4,446 units in May was higher than the sales of the Bolero at 4,419 units. Though the KUV100 has worked well for Mahindra, the sales in May were lower compared to the previous month. Mahindra sold 5097 units of the KUV100 in April and sales in May show month on month drop of 12.8 per cent.
On the other hand, Mahindra managed to sell only 4,419 units of the Bolero last month showing a 23.6 per cent drop in month on month sales. The utility vehicle was steadily doing more than 7,000 units per month till December 2015. The decline in sales of the car comes at the time when the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport with a price cut are actually doing well. The Brezza in May was the highest selling utility vehicle in the country.
The Mahindra Bolero had successfully reigned the utility market since 2007. And despite of the changing buying trends in the Indian market, the Bolero has shown immense perseverance for decades. However, now it is quite long in the tooth and we hope Mahindra brings in the update to maintain the Bolero brand's success story.
