Mahindra and Mahindra shows significant growth over last year in FES and Automotive sector

In May 2012, the Farm Equipment Sector (FES) of Mahindra and Mahindra retained its top position in the tractor industry. FES is a part of the Mahindra and Mahindra group which is worth USD 15.4 billion. The national sales of the sector stood at 18,019 units in May 2012 over 17,952 units sold in May 2011. Including both – domestic sales and exports, FES sold 18,892 units in May last year which was now expanded to 19,016 vehicles in May 2012. During the same period, the total exports of the company stood at 997 units.

The leading Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) maker of country posted auto sales of 43,998 units in May 2012. With these figures, the company marked a growth of 28 per cent over the figures of May 2011 which stood at 34,323 units.

Showing a growth of 24 per cent, the company's national sales touched 39,938 units in May 2012 from 32,159 units sold in May 2011. As far as passenger vehicles segment is concerned, the company moved from 16,702 units sold in May 2011 to 21,154 units in the same month of 2012. With this improvement, the company marked a growth of 27 per cent in this segment, which also includes utility vehicles and Verito.

On the performance of the company, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, Pravin Shah, commented, “We are happy to have achieved a growth of 28% during May 2012 in spite of difficult and uncertain market conditions. All our brands, especially those in the personal category are doing well. With the planned ramp up of production capacity and the re-opening of bookings of the XUV500 effective 8th of June pan India, we expect to meet the demand of many more of our XUV500 customers.”
