A lot of excitement was generated among the Indian auto aficionados by information given about the Mahindra Mojo to the media. Its launch was expected to take place in 2012, but testing for its engine is still under process, as per company information. Extensive testing of the high performance 300 cc engine is being done at Mahindra's R&D facility.

Mojo is powered by a single cylinder, 4-valve, 300 cc engine which can churn out a maximum of 26 bhp power at 8500 rpm. It generates a maximum torque of 24 Nm at 7000 rpm and the engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Disc brakes for both front and rear wheels are fitted in Mojo, which complements its 160 kg weight. This upcoming bike from M&M will also get an electronic ignition, making it a promising and powerful vehicle for the Indian customers. As most performance bikes get wide tyres in the rear, so does this one; a 100 section tyre in front and a 150 section tyre in the rear.

The 110 cc segment would also be witnessing some activity from Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M). Speaking on the same, Anoop Mathur, President of two-wheeler sector and member of the group executive board for M&M said, “We want our presence across segments and ranges. Our plan is to come out with new models of scooters and motor cycle at frequent intervals over the next three to five years.” The Mojo would roll out during FY 2013-14 and so would be a few other motorcycles from the company's end.

Two models, the 'Pantero' and 'Centuro' have been revealed in the 110 cc motorcycle segment. These are powered by the Mci-5 engine, manufactured in M&M's Pithampur facility at Madhya Pradesh. The stylish design of these bikes is a hard work of company's Pune R&D facility. The auto maker wishes to establish a strategic presence in the motorcycle exports market, and intends to start shipping its new bikes before the end of FY 2013-14.

Interestingly, the company already has a strong presence in the passenger Utility Vehicle (UV) and commercial vehicle segments. If these two-wheelers are able to do well, M&M would definitely become the best 'all-round' vehicle manufacturer in the country.
