German automaker Mercedes-Benz introduced the GLC in India via the CBU route way back in June this year. This time around, the luxury carmaker citing the product’s success in India has decided to localise the production for the GLC. This will mean that the vehicle will be priced much lower and well under Rs 50 lakh as against the CBU pricing of Rs 55.7 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

The company will be officially launching the made-in-India GLC on September 29. Mercedes-Benz offers the GLC with a set of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine which generates 245bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque and 170 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque, respectively.  In terms of dimensions, the vehicle measures 4,656 mm in length, 2,096 mm in width and 1,644 mm in height. The GLC boasts a boot space of 550litres and has a wheelbase measuring 2,874mm long.

The import GLC model has received a five star rating by Euro NCAP and it is to be seen if the India-made model will also get similar safety features. The sharp drop in prices will help Mercedes-Benz GLC have a sharp edge over its rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 in India. More details about the India-made model will be known at a later date.
