Luxury car makers may find it tough to make sales in the international market and there may be enough recalls owing to ongoing complaints but the Indian car market gives them a cool fresh breather. Nearly all car makers in the luxury car segment have been enjoying doublE digit growth and look quite optimistic about the Indian market.

"Exciting products and exciting ways to showcase such products have been our constant endeavor. Our initiatives in 2010 have been targeted at customers from large as well as medium and small cities," Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur said. Mercedes reported 84.15 percent growth in its sales during period of Janaury-August 2010 as compared to same period last year.

Audi is currently the third largest competitor in the segment and intends to have 30 percent market share by next year. It is already planning to double its capacity in India and is now expanding to cities like Bhubhneshwar and Patna. "We are looking at increasing our marketshare as well as focusing on profitabilty. By next year we target around 30 per cent share in the Indian market. We expect a huge growth coming from the metros as well as Tier II cities," said Audi India Head Micheal Perschke. He also stated that India is a strategic market for the company and new showrooms are coming up in cities like Surat, Ludhiana, Indore, Coimbatore and Lucknow. Audi will also be launching the highend A8 model by the end of this year.
