A long wheelbase version of the Volkswagen Tiguan has been spotted in China. This new offering is expected to show up at the Chengdu Auto Show in September, before going on sale in China starting October this year.
Given the Chinese car buyers’ penchant for rear seat comfort, VW has extended the standard Tiguan’s wheelbase by a fair bit. As a result, the rear door is longer and the rear quarter glass is bigger in size as well. This long wheelbase version is said to be a seven-seater model and will be made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture.
The car is likely to be called Tiguan L or Tiguan XL. When launched later in the year, it will carry a price tag of around 225,000yuan (Rs 22.68 lakh). While the first-gen Tiguan never made it to the Indian market, the second-gen model (shown at the 2016 Auto Expo) will be introduced as a locally assembled vehicle.
