The variants and features of the next-generation Toyota Fortuner have been leaked ahead of its global debut on July 17, 2015 in Thailand. With new styling, premium interior and a new engine lineup, the 2016 Fortuner will surely be a lot better product than the existing model.
For the Thai market, the new Fortuner will be available in five variants – 2.4G 4X2, 2.4V 4X2, 2.8V 4X2, 2.8V 4X4 and 2.7V 4X2 - and three engine options – a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder diesel, a 2.8-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre, four-cylinder VVT-i petrol. The new 2.4-litre ‘GD’ diesel engine delivers a maximum power of 150bhp with 343Nm of torque, while the 2.8-litre unit is tuned for two states of power - 177bhp with 420Nm and 177bhpp with 450Nm. On the other hand, the petrol mill is capable to produce 122bhp and 245Nm. Transmission on offer will be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. An optional 4x4 drive system will be available only on the top-end 2.8V variant.
According to a report, features on offer will be start/stop button, Smart key system with keyless entry, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), knee airbags, brake assist, hill assist control, vehicle stability control system and emergency light system.
For the Indian market, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will continue to be assembled at the company’s Karnataka-based plant, while the new ‘GD’ engines will be manufactured at the TKM’s new engine production facility near Jigani, Karnataka with high-level of localization. Set to rival the Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and the upcoming new-gen Ford Endeavour, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is expected to be launched in the first half of 2016, within the price bracket of Rs.20 lakh – Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
