Ford India Private Limited, the American auto maker, appears to be in full swing in order to launch its much awaited compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) EcoSport soon in the Indian auto market. As reported by TopGear India, the company will be introducing its flagship model on March 4 amid great buzz. The report further said that the car will be offered with an introductory price of Rs. 5.9 lakhs for the petrol model, whereas its diesel guise will be offered at a base price of Rs. 6.99 lakh to Rs. 7.2 lakhs.
Reportedly, the upcoming EcoSport with come equipped with three engine options, namely 1.0 litre EcoBoost, 1.5 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel. Among all of them, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine equipped model will be the most expensive. Interestingly, this 1 litre petrol engine will have the potential to belt out a maximum power of 120 bhp, whereas its 1.5 litre sibling will generate 110 bhp. The least power output among all the three will be of diesel guise EcoSport, which will come equipped with a 1.5 litre powertrain, producing a maximum power output of 90 bhp.
Along with a brilliant power output, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine of EcoSport will deliver a fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl, which will further entice the Indian buyers. However, it is still a question that which among the three engines will gather much attention of masses. Interestingly, the bookings for EcoSport have been already started at some of the Ford India’s exclusive dealerships. Post launch, the model will deliver a stiff competition to Renault Duster, which is currently believed to be a segment defining model. In addition, it is also expected that 2013 EcoSport will also challenge the legacy of premium hatchbacks and entry level hatchbacks of the Indian auto market.
Industry experts believe that the launch of a new performance oriented model from Ford will surely gather the attention of auto aficionados. EcoSport is expected to favour Ford in the entry level compact SUV segment, which is currently witnessing a boost in demand from the domestic buyers.
