Land Rover, Tata Motors-owned British auto maker, has launched a new base variant of Freelander 2 in the Indian auto market, named Freelander 2 Business Edition. With a price tag of Rs. 37.6 lakh, the recently introduced model is cheaper by Rs. 3.5 lakh than its higher-end sibling. It must be noted that the Freelander 2 is the only Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Land Rover, which is assembled in the Indian auto market.
Industry experts are of a view that the auto maker has introduced an economical version of Freelander 2 in order to pull in some decent volumes from the premium SUV segment. Coming to the technical specifications of the Land Rover Freelander 2 Business Edition, it has been equipped with an engine options of 2.2-litre TD4 and SD4, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system.
Reportedly, in order to reduce the pricing of this new base model, the auto maker has done away with a number of features, which can be seen in the refreshed model of Freelander 2 which was introduced earlier this year. Some of the major features that are not present in the new Freelander 2 are heated mirrors, front door puddle lamps, electrically adjustable front seats, sunroof, seat mounted armrests and Meridian audio system. Also, the 7-inch infotainment display has been now replaced with the 4.2 inch screen. Advancements like automatic head lamps, xenon lights, Terrain Response system, rain sensing wipers and front as well as rear parking sensors have been packed within the new Freelander 2.
Besides comfort features, the model has been fitted with a number of safety features, ensuring complete security of its passengers. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), airbags, hill descent control, electronic traction control, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and cornering brake control are few key highlights of the same. On the launch of a new model in Land Rover portfolio, auto analysts are of a view that it is the most economical variant in the line-up of Freelander 2.
