Land Rover, the British subsidiary of the India’s largest vehicle maker Tata Motors, is all set to display its all new Land Rover Defender model at the next month’s Frankfurt Motors Show. The Show will be held in September 2011, where a large number of auto maker will be showcasing their upcoming car models along with launching a few of them at the show itself.

The Land Rover Defender is an off-road vehicle which was introduced in the world market way back in 1948. Since then, it has been launched in a number of world markets in different avatars and different names. The vehicle has been sold in biggest auto markets like USA and Australia.

While the current edition of the Defender model is compatible with all emission standards, the new one would be difficult to keep up to standards, as per a statement given by Mr. Colin Green, Managing Director of Land Rover, UK. For making the Defender project viable for the company, Land Rover needs to sell at least 60,000 to 80,000 units of the vehicle annually.

In the US market, the Defender model doesn’t meet the safety requirements and the vehicle has been sold in a very few specially modified versions in that market in the past.

The new generation of Defender is expected to be launched in the world market by mid 2012. However, the company hasn’t revealed the details regarding the launch date and specification of the replacing model.
