KTM, the Austrian bike maker, seems all prepared for the launch of its new bike in the Indian auto market, named RC390. Sources close to the development process stated that the model will be revealed in November this year and soon the bike will mark its presence in the country. Reportedly, the designing frame of RC390 seems identical to the D390’s steel trellis frame; however some modifications are expected to feature. The head angle of handle is increased to 66.5 degrees, resulting in shorter trail and wheelbase, along with increased ground clearance. With these changes, it can be clearly said that the new KTM RC390 will sport sharp steering response with a high degree of perfection.
Coming to its technical specifications, the new RC390 will come equipped with a performance oriented single-cylinder, liquid cooled 375cc four-stroke engine. With its twin overhead camshafts and electronic fuel injection technology, the bike is anticipated to churn out a maximum power of 42 bhp, keeping power to weight ratio under 0.2 kw/kg. Owing to its balancer shaft, the KTM RC390 will offer a decent level of smoothness. The electric starter of this bike is powered by a battery of 12V/6Ah. A six-speed manual transmission is also expected within the model, which will further add-on to the performance of KTM RC390. Also, the bike will come with a fuel tank capacity of 9.5 litres with reserve of up to 1.5 litres.
Industry experts are of a view that the rider faces hassle while cornering the bike in a good speed and what remains to be seen is that how stable this new bike will be at high speed. It must be noted that the D390 feels a wee bit on edges; however few modifications will help the RC390 feel a bit more subtle in this situation. In European markets, this bike will be placed in the A2 category, which is dedicated to the medium sized bikes. In this space, auto makers mainly target buyers of 19-23 years age group. Other key highlights of RC390 will be the new clip on handlebars, which will facilitate a sporty and aggressive riding posture.
In terms of looks, the bike will sport twin headlights in order to deliver a sports look. Sources further said that the the upcoming bike will come with a brand new exteriors, footrests and pedals. Reportedly, the RC390 will be manufactured at the Chakan plant of Bajaj, near Pune, for sale in India and other markets as well. It must be noted that RC390 happens to be the first KTM bike to go on sale in all the 76 markets wherein the Austrian company has its reach.
