The much-awaited KTM RC 390 has been in the news for quite some after the much success of the older models of this two-wheeler manufacturer. The RC series had raised quite some anticipation from fans and there was a rising speculation about the model that would be launched earlier. Some were of the opinion that the RC 200 would be released initially. However, ending all speculations, it has been declared that the RC 390 will be the first model of this series to reach the customers, on 9th of September, precisely. Following its launch, the RC 200 will be launched subsequently, probably in October. There were rumours that booking had begun few weeks earlier; however, dealers had refused to take bookings as they had no clue about its release date.
RC 390 is a fully faired improvisation of the Duke 390, which was a leading model of KTM. The engine remains absolutely the same, but there have been few changes, as well. The 373.2 cc, single-cylinder water-cooled 4-stroke engine churns out 43 PS of power when maximum at a peak torque of 35 Nm. Partnered with a 6-speed gearbox, the ride is assured to be super-smooth. Metzeler tyres have been installed in this model to make sure that the bike gets a firm grip on all kinds of roads.
ABS has been installed in the standard version of RC 390. When compared to the Duke 390, this bike has a smaller fuel tank. RC 390 weighs more than the Duke version. The former is expected to hover around 147 kg while Duke had a slightly lighter 139 kg. The ground clearance of the new model would be 178.5 mm and the height of the seat is expected to be approximately 20 mm higher when compared to the Duke 390. The shock absorber of the front wheel has been made 25 mm shorter just to give that extra racing appeal for those who are game for some speed. With split seats, mounted windshield, firm clip-on handlebars, KTM RC 390 is expected to be much of a winner. It is also installed with twin projector headlamps and daytime running lights. The bike will be priced between 2.1 to 2.3 lakhs INR (ex-showroom New Delhi) and will definitely be an upgrade for those who have been looking to move a step higher from the Yamaha R15.
