KTM, the Austrian two-wheeler maker, after successfully launching its first bike, the Duke 200, in the country, plans to come up with newer products in India in order to increase its sales. The company aims to launch a smaller displacement bike than the current Duke 200. A top official from the company gave a hint that the company is planning to launch a bike with capacity between 150-180cc and would be priced lower than its current 200cc bike.

The new bike that would be launched by KTM would not only have lower engine capacity but is likely to come with lower specifications as well. This is expected because a cut in price of the bike would mean lower specifications. The company aims to increase its sales volume and for this to happen, it would require a product with a competitive price tag positioned in the big-volume mass market motorcycle segment. A bike between 150-180cc would exactly meet all these requirements and the company's ambitions of boosting its sales as well.

KTM, in the country, has partnered with Bajaj Auto, which also holds a 47 per cent stake in the Austrian two-wheeler maker. Bajaj will play a crucial role in KTM's big plans of expansion in the country. Bajaj Auto produces KTM's bike for the domestic market as well as for export to European countries.

KTM's plans of expansion and increasing the sales figure in the country will, however, not be so easy. The Austrian company has to offer something extra, as a large number of bikes in that segment are already available from the stables of Hero MotoCorp, Honda, TVS and Bajaj itself. The company has to plan strategically in order to lure the trusted buyers of Hero MotoCorp and other two wheel makers.
