KTM, the Austrian auto maker, is said to be busy in developing a new 375 cc bike for the Indian market, which will be launched in the near future. Bajaj, the official partner of KTM, too has plans to introduce a 375 cc Pulsar for the Indian market, following the successful launch of Pulsar 200 NS. Therefore, there are high chances that both the auto makers will share the technology.

A thing to note here is that Bajaj Auto holds 47 per cent stake in Austrian bike maker KTM and the designing process for Duke 125 and 200 is courtesy Bajaj. Auto analysts believe that the Indian premium two-wheeler segment has been taken by storm by both of these auto makers and all the credits have been given to terrific performance, cool styling and an economical price tag of KTM Duke and Pulsar 200. With the launch of 200 Duke, KTM has directly targeted the likes of Honda CBR 250R and Yamaha R15.

Bajaj and KTM are together working on the development of bikes between 125 cc and 375 cc engines. Interestingly, KTM Duke 125 and 200 are both produced at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant, which has reduced its cost of manufacturing. Reportedly, KTM and Bajaj Auto are now employing their efforts on the two new bikes, which will further carry the legacy of both the auto makers in India. The companies are also working on the development of a twin cylinder powertrain, which is soon expected to find space in Bajaj and KTM bikes.

A thing to note here is that twin cylinder motorcycles are yet not economical in the country and Bajaj Auto as well as KTM is working to change the notion. Provided with heavy localisation, both the auto companies are sure to bank on the changing trend of the Indian two-wheeler market as auto enthusiasts have developed a penchant for naked sport bikes.
