Back in August 1982 Kiran Bedi shot to fame as a Delhi police officer who towed away Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's car. The news indeed spread like wildfire as the action was undertaken by India's first female IPS officer. This time around Kiran Bedi has stood as the potential candidate from Bharatiya Janata Party as a chief ministerial candidate.

The myth was recently broken during an interview with NDTV, wherein she said it was indeed sub-inspector Nirmal Singh, who towed the car back then in 1982. Bedi said, “Sub inspector Nirmal Singh towed it away. And that time, I was asked will you take action against this officer. No, I said, I will give this person an award for showing courage.” Ensuring that her men are not punished or transferred she said, “It is my job as a leader to see that my officers dare to do their duty and they are fully protected and they are rewarded and they follow the policy of no discrimination. It was my duty to stand by him, and I did.”

Myth has also been going on stating that Bedi was given a transfer to goa for about 7 months due to incident. Speaking on it, Bedi said, “The government in power needed me till the Asian Games. After that they transferred me. I told them my daughter needs medical care. I need to be in Delhi as she was being treated in AIIMS. They didn't hear me, that is how it became a punishment posting.”
