Kia Sedona (or the Kia Carnival) has been around since 2014 and is now in its third generation. The minivan has been the workhorse for the Korean carmaker in the American market and is in desperate need of an update since its competitors, like the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica, got an update recently. Here we have the first shots of the facelifted Kia Sedona, caught while on a test drive in Orange County, California.

The test mule is highly camouflaged which suggests the minivan will undergo a major update rather than minor cosmetic tweaks. The design element from the recently updated Sportage and Sorento is expected to be a part of the update for the Sedona. There might be a redesigned glass area, tweaked fascia and reworked rear as a part of the facelift. The key change for the minivan will be under the skin. The newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission will replace the currently offered six-speed unit. The infotainment system will get an upgrade as well. It will continue with the same set of gasoline and diesel powerplants.

Kia is expected to introduce the mid-life update for the Sedona sometime next year as a 2019 model.
