Fiat has announced that it will officially launch the Jeep range of vehicles in India on September 1 and will offer the Wrangler and the Cherokee as a part of the lineup. Their arrival comes nearly three years after Fiat announced that it would be bringing the brand to the sub-continent.
The Wrangler will be offered in a single variant while the more luxurious Grand Cherokee will come in both standard as well as high performance SRT form.
The Grand Cherokee will be offered in three variants - Limited, Summit and SRT. The Limited and Summit get a 3.0-litre V6 diesel that produces 240bhp and 570Nm of torque. Those willing to spend a ‘bit’ more on something a lot more powerful can opt for the high performance SRT (Street Racing Technology) which is powered by a monstrous 6.4-litre V8 engine that produces 469bhp and 630Nm of torque. All three models only get the option of an eight-speed AT and AWD.
The Wrangler is the more iconic of two as it closely resembles the original Willy’s Jeep from the previous century. The India-spec model will be only available as a diesel and with four-wheel drive. Powering this car is a 2.8-litre four pot motor producing 197bhp and 460Nm of torque. 4X4 and a five-speed AT are standard. We believe that the Jeep Wrangler will be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 32 lakh while the Grand Cherokee range will be priced in the range of Rs 35 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Both ranges will be brought in via the CBU route with the possibility of local assembly sometime next year based on demand.
