Premium SUVs have carved a niche for themselves in the Indian auto market. Several SUVs can be spotted on the roads of top cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh and Bangalore. After a long wait, the Indian market is set to receive a gift from Chrysler Group LLC owned car brand Jeep, which is planning to launch two of its best SUVs in India. It is widely expected that the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler will make their way to India soon. They are set to compete with the likes of Audi Q5 and BMW X5.
No official announcement has been made by the car maker yet, but speculations are rife that it is targeting a festive season launch. Jeep enjoys an iconic status throughout the globe and is often acknowledged as the first big brand in the segment. The car maker is famous for designing cars that are powerful, solid, technologically advanced and have the ability to outperform competitors in the segment.
Jeep Grand Cherokee, in particular, is a premium SUV that has earned recognition on a global level. It features high-class aerodynamics, minimally detailed grille, dual-exhaust tips, five-spoked alloy wheels with chrome bezel inserts and a huge bumper. Interiors of Jeep Grand Cherokee include luxurious padding on seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, cabin air filtration and dual zone air conditioning system. Technological and safety highlights include 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, full length side-curtain airbags, hill ascent and descent control, forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring. Rumours suggest that the SUV to be launched in India will be powered by a 3-litre turbocharged engine that will be mated to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Apart from this, Jeep is also expected to introduce Wrangler in the Indian car market. Jeep Wrangler is generally regarded among the top off-roaders in the world. It is believed that the Wrangler will come in two engine options - 3.6-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel. The petrol variant will be available in a two-door option, whereas the diesel version is expected to come with both two-door and four-door options.
Industry experts feel that the success of these cars depends entirely on the promotional strategy adopted by the manufacturer. More often than not, a good marketing strategy works wonders for a brand in a market as big as India.
