Jammu and Kashmir to see Tata Nano as a taxi

The state transport department of Jammu and Kashmir has received several proposals for rolling out Tata Nano in the taxi segment, which might see daylight in the near future. Reportedly, the government has been asked to charge the same fare, as of auto rickshaws’ in its Tata Nano taxi. According to sources, the state government of Jammu and Kashmir has already asked for proposals from the concerned parties, which indicate that one can probably spot a Tata Nano taxi plying over the state roads.

Expressing his views on the same, the transport commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehraj Kakroo was quoted as saying, “We have received proposals from private players intending to use Nano cab as a commercial vehicle to ferry passengers on the tariff being charged by the auto rickshaws.”

Reportedly, Tata Nano cab will come fitted with GPS systems and will be charging the travellers according to the metre. The state government has said that the models, which will be used as taxis should be at least two years used and should feature an air conditioning system. Speaking on this new initiative, the government officials said that the taxi version of Tata Nano will be spotted in red, white and black colours.

It must be noted that industry experts earlier said that the Bajaj RE60 will probably replace the auto rickshaws on the Indian roads. However, the statement was not confirmed by any of the government officials. This time, the news coming from the end of Jammu Kashmir state government seems to be implemented soon, providing a breathe of relief for passengers.
