Jaguar has started accepting bookings for its 2014 XJ sedan which is due to launch this year in June. The sedan was previewed at the 12th Auto Expo held in Greater Noida last month. Prospective customers can book the premium saloon by paying a token amount of Rs 5 lakh. The British car marquee had proclaimed at the Auto Expo that it will be assembling the sedan locally which means we can see a price slash. Jaguar will assemble XJ sedan at its manufacturing unit located in Pune which is shares with Land Rover. Other vehicles from JLR stable viz; XF and Land Rover Freelander 2 are also assembled at the facility.
Jaguar will proffer facelifted XJ in petrol and diesel engine options, the petrol variant will be powered by a 2.0 litre, four cylinder turbocharged motor, a unit of EcoBoost, sourced from Ford. The 2.0 litre petrol engine engenders a high power and torque output of 240 PS at 5,000 RPM and 340Nm at 1,750 RPM. The robust engine enables sedan to sprint from stand still to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds and attain a top speed mark of 241 kmph. Company claims the new XJ petrol variant to return a decent fuel economy of 9.4 kmph.
Diesel version will be equipped with a 3.0 litre six cylinder powertrain belting out a maximum power output of 275 PS at 4,000 RPM along with a peak torque of 600 Nm at 2,000 RPM. XJ’s diesel version propels from nil to 100 kmph within 6.4 seconds and reaches top speed mark of 250 kmph. 2014 XJ diesel avatar promises to deliver fuel efficiency of 12.9 kms in a litre. Jaguar has coupled petrol and diesel engines to an 8-speed automatic transmission transmitting drive to the rear wheels. The India-spec version of XJ sedan is available in long wheelbase avatar. In domestic market, the premium saloon will face-off with contemporaries like Mercedes Benz S Class which is also being sold in India via CKD route, besides this XJ will also cross swords with Audi India’s yet to be launched saloon 2014 A8 facelift which is also expected to break cover by June.
