Jaguar is planning to enter the SUV segment soon. An initiative into the same will be made by the launch of Jaguar F-pace in 2016. The auto maker has been operational for over 80 years now and the name F-Pace seems to have been chosen after due deliberations. This name is in sync with F-type sports car for which Jaguar was well known and also as a reminder of its old slogan Grace, Pace, Space which used to be tag line of the company during 1950s and 1960s.

Incidentally, the new car will have identical looks and size to C-X 17, a concept that was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. This model is likely to become Jaguar’s top selling car. The British luxury car maker desires to capture the auto market in China and US with this anticipated launch. Jaguar also has in mind its competitors, particularly Porsche Macan and BMW X4. As the hold of the new models gets established in the market, Jaguar hopes that its volumes would be pushed beyond 200,000 units a year. This will be a major push as compared to its present figures of 80,000 units per year.

The styling of F-Pace has been done in-house by design boss Ian Callum and his team in 2013. The designer Ian Callum admitted that designing the F-Pace was a challenge as it was the company's first crossover design. The much awaited SUV from Jaguar will be designed and build at the company’s Solihull plant and should be available with chosen dealers by early 2016. However, fans in India will have to wait a bit longer as the SUV is expected to hit the Indian market by end of 2016.
