Sudden pedestrian movement and disorganized cyclist can indeed give you nasty surprises. To make driving a more safe and enjoyable experience, Jaguar Land Rover has reportedly been working on a new bike sense technology that can identify cyclists, motorcyclist and pedestrians steeping suddenly in vehicles path. The technology shall make use of light, sound and haptic warnings to alert the driver.

As per the new safety initiative drivers can hear a 'ring' tune similar to a bicycle bell from the side where the bicycle has been approaching the vehicle. The driver shall also receive a tap on left or right shoulder based on self inflating seat cushions that can inflate as well as contract on its own. When you try opening a door and a bicyclists has been approaching in the same direction the door handle shall illuminate and vibrate to alert you. Moreover, in the event of a pedestrian walking in vehicle's path the driver shall alerted by a vibrating accelerator pedal.

Speaking more on the occasion, Wolfgang Epple, director of research and technology at JLR, said, “Bike Sense takes us beyond the current technologies of hazard indicators and icons in wing mirrors, to optimizing the location of light, sound and touch to enhance this intuition. This creates warnings that allow a faster cognitive reaction as they engage the brain’s instinctive responses. If you see the dashboard glowing red in your peripheral vision, you will be drawn to it and understand straight away that another road user is approaching that part of your vehicle.”
