Isuzu’s new flagship SUV, the MU-X will be launched in India on May 11th. The MU-X will replace the ageing MU-7 and become the new flagship vehicle for the Japanese carmaker in India.

      Isuzu MU-X

The MU-X SUV was first introduced in 2013 and has been on sale in international markets of Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Indonesia and Philippines. After the upgrade last year, the MU-X now gets LED daytime running lights integrated alongside the projector units. The bumpers have been tweaked with a new roof-mounted spoiler and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels giving the SUV a modern appeal. The roof rails, wrap-around LED taillights and high ground clearance characterise the new MU-X. The overall design philosophy is very similar to that of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which the MU-X is based upon. Like the exterior, the interior of the MU-X too is similarly feature loaded. It can comfortably accommodate seven passengers, and the cabin gets a premium feel thanks to leather-wrapped seats, steering wheel and door trims. There will be a touch-screen system paired with six speakers, supporting Mp3, USB, Aux-in, i-Pod, Bluetooth and satellite navigation. Safety features in this car include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and traction control system as well.

Engine wise, the MU-X will be powered by the same engine and transmission as the global model, a 3.0-litre diesel unit producing 174bhp and 380Nm. This power plant comes mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. It’s not know yet as to whether the carmaker will introduce both the 2WD and AWD versions in the country.

When launched in India, the MU-X will enter a segment which is currently dominated by the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour while vehicles like the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Hyundai Santa Fe also pose as tough adversaries for the new MU-X. Isuzu will locally assemble the MU-X at their new facility in SriCity near Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border.
