Isuzu Motors has started testing the MU-X SUV in India, with a heavily camouflaged test mule being spotted recently. The SUV was recently imported to our country and will replace the MU-7 from the Indian market when launched.

Isuzu starts testing the MU-X on Indian roads

The MU-X comes loaded with advanced technological and design features. The masculine appearance is well complemented by projector headlamps, fog lamps, a chrome radiator grille and 16-inch alloys. Its high ground clearance of 230mm should add to its advantage while tackling Indian roads. Another highlight is the wrap-around rear windshield, which gives it a modern look. The flared wheel arches and roof rails further augment the sports utility quotient. Besides, the roof rails also have a capability of carrying 60 kilograms of cargo.

The MU-X gets a rich interior with a capability of seating seven occupants. The leather wrapped seats, steering wheel and door trims lend the users a premium feel. There is a touch screen system paired to six speakers and supports Mp3, USB, Aux-in, i-Pod, Bluetooth and even satellite navigation. On the safety front, there are dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and traction control system as well.

The Indian-spec MU-X is likely to use the same engine and transmission as the global model. The latter uses a 3.0-litre diesel unit that churns 174bhp of max power and 380Nm of torque. It comes mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. It remains to be seen if the carmaker will introduce both the 2WD and AWD versions in India like the international markets.

The Isuzu MU-X made its debut in Thailand, followed by Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Indonesia and Philippines. Upon its launch in our country, India will be the seventh market to get it. The MU-X is basically the replacement for the old Alterra SUV, which is sold as the MU-7 in India. It will be Isuzu’s flagship model upon launch and then go up against the new Fortuner, Endeavour and Pajero Sport in the Indian market.
